Update from Simply Hired
I ran into several execs from Simply Hired last week in Chicago but it was all in passing so we didnt have much time to chat. I've been wondering whats going on with the number 2 aggrgator since they have been fairly quiet lately. So I asked Francis Larkin to give us an update. Enjoy. 1. SimplyHired has been quiet lately in terms of new announcements...what’s the latest news? got any stats to share in terms of unique visitors? We’ve been busy, Chris! Last month, over 7 million unique visitors... |

Q&A with Eric Straus, RegionalHelpWanted
I asked Eric Straus, the founder of RHW to answer a few questions...enjoy. 1. What has the purchase of RHW been like for you these past few months? was it tough selling 'your baby' Yes.. it was tough decision to sell my "baby". So much fun taking this from just an idea... and turning it into a thriving business. But I am loving all the help I'm getting from the pros at OnTargetJobs! The actual transaction itself took a LONG time.. and the due diligence was long and intense... but the final outcome... |

Monster featured in Workforce Magazine
There's a really nice in-depth article on Monster in the recent edition of Workforce Mag. Here's a portion with a link to full article. Despite a wave of recent hardships, Monster is pushing ahead with ambitious plans to strengthen its business. Talk of the its demise (or imminent acquisition), says CEO Sal Iannuzzi, is unfounded. It’s a scary time to be Monster. Not only is the online recruiting giant still dealing with fallout from an embarrassing stock option scandal, but it faces a host... |

Exclusive! Dot Jobs seeking to expand domain usage for job boards
At SHRM Chicago last week I met an exec from the .jobs domain registry, Brian Johnson. He told me some very interesting news. I interviewed him in the video below. Basically they want to expand the use of the domain by letting niche boards register and use names like sales.jobs or newyork.jobs. "We look forward to the day when we can remove the restrictions...and help serve the job board community" -Brian Johnson This is big news. The ramifications for current job boards could be huge. Perhaps... |

Indeed snags The Ladder's listings
HEARD AT SHRM: After a 2 year courtship, Indeed is now spidering jobs from 100k site theladders.com - now if only Craigslist would follow, Indeed could rule the world! Rumour has it Indeed's VP Sales called Craig who referred him to Buckmaster who said they weren't interested in making money. Could Execunet's jobs be next? |

Monster's video embed in action
While scanning listings in Monster today I came across a new video embed for GE. Check it out. 1. results page 2. job description page (note how tightly integrated the GE career site is) 3. Video (user must download the file which takes about 20 seconds). Its a fancy, corporately produced piece. I think it would better serve the job seeker if they could play the video right on the page. |

Angry job seekers
I got a call today from a job seeker (aka disgruntled former employee) of a company who posted an ad on one of my boards. It was for a sales rep position. The ad itself is fine and describes the job and related commissions you would earn. The job seeker asked me to take the ad down because; 1. she worked for them and they defaulted on paychecks and were late with many 2. she said the commissions stated on the job posting are "lies" 3. the business owner also has defaulted on payments to a number... |

Why are radio stations creating job boards?
Cumulus Media which operates hundreds of local radio stations, recently launched CumulusJobs.com. The other night I heard one of their commercials. First of all, when I hear the name "Cumulus Jobs" I immediately think its just a company career site for Cumulus. But that didn't stop this old media company from jumping into the job board space. Perhaps they feel an empty void after Regional Help Wanted was sold. RHW used to run ads and give stations a cut, but i haven't heard their commercials... |

Does MySpace jobs have better SEO juice than CareerBuilder?
While perusing keyword stats today for Jobs in Pods I noticed several click thru's on the term 'walgreens jobs' so I checked Google for the reason. To my surprise their jobs on MySpace (aka Simply Hired) were number 1, even ahead of the Walgreens corp site. Go figure. (note: they were not in the top spot for a period while i wrote this but now they appear to be back again. Anyone else getting strange results on Google?) |

Filling a niche? 50kandUp.com
I'll admit this is a niche but I'm not convinced its one worth filling. There are plenty of 100k + job sites but a new claims to be for those jobs paying 50k-100k. Its called what else, 50kandUp.com. Its powered by Jobtarget who seems to be on a roll lately. But the user experience is no different than the myriad of other sites powered by JT. Nor do many of the jobs carry salary information, so for a site that claims to have all 50-100k jobs, thats a problem. |
