Cheezhead job seeker alleges jobfox scam
We recently received this email from a Cheezhead reader, who had a less-than-productive experience with Jobfox’s Intro service. This new tool claims to reach out to companies and introduce candidates on their job board that are deemed “5-star.” The reader writes: I am always looking for new web sites and new features of current web sites that knock my socks off and make me want to keep using the product - and tell my friends . . . so I gave Jobfox’s new Mutual Suitability...

Cheezhead zoom in on another video resume site
More video resumes sites are popping up left and right. And while their popularity remains to be seen in the professional world, there’s no doubt that college students are catching on. There are even parodies that are are good for a chuckle or two. The folks at video production company Corp Shorts must have noticed, because they’re creating a site that is just for college kids. On ZoomREZ.com users can upload and publish their video resumes, which can then be searched by recruiters...

ERE Job Boards CareerBuilder Ends Video Resume Experiment
Little more than a year after introducing video resumes, CareerBuilder has discontinued the service. It was quietly taken offline in June. The company won’t say how many jobseekers posted videos, but it seems the participation rate wasn’t high enough to warrant CareerBuilder’s effort. Job board spokesperson Jennifer Grasz told us, “We’re always testing the market with new tools and services to enhance the user experience. If the response rates are not there, we’ll...

Cheezhead oodles and oodles of fun
Oodle, an aggregator of online classified ads, is now experimenting in the UK with what General Manager Duncan Dunlop calls “the next phase of classified advertising: mobile classifieds.” People wishing to sell some of their wares can now text the item description and picture to 66121. They’re charged only if someone expresses an interest in purchasing the item and the seller wants their identity revealed. The technology was created by Mobiya, a classified media platform that’s...

Cheezhead careerbuilder touts 5,000 facebook friends
Today on Facebook, CareerBuilder is touting the acquisition of its 5,000th friend. CareerBuilder launched their page around March 2008, accompanied with advertising dollars and a nice chunk of buzz. If you’re scoring at home, that’s roughly 1,000 new fans per month. The number seems a little low to us (although CareerBuilder’s VP of Consumer Marketing isn’t discouraged), but when compared to the competition - Jobing.com’s 58 fans since July and MonsterTrak’s...

Cheezhead survey says 2 out of 4 people are sick of surveys
OK, I haven’t really seen a study that proves this yet, but I think it might be worth pursuing. There is rarely a day where a fresh survey doesn’t pop up in my inbox promising to shed light on another mysterious issue plaguing the employment industry. Frankly, I think these polls are getting tiresome. Are the results truly relevant? More often then not, I find myself scanning the survey and hitting the delete button, most often because they elicit one response: no sh*t. Here are some...

Chris Russell CorporateGrade.com doesn't make the grade
I'm getting pretty tired of all these "company review" sites popping up. There's just too many. So when I saw this press release I had to check it out. Unfortunately I was greeted with this. They get an F in my book.

Cheezhead best buy’s facebook strategy and more
When I first heard about Best Buy’s flexible work program, I was surprised. A large company that allows its workers to pick their own schedules and work from home sounded too good to be true. I caught up with Joshua Kahn, Senior Pipeline Generation Expert at Best Buy, to ask how the program was implemented. It turns out that Best Buy’s doing a lot more these days to attract a younger generation. Here are three tactics that stood out. 1) They have a Facebook page, a must-have application...
